saa-1060@toastmastersclubs.orgWhitehorse Toastmasters celebrating its 50th birthday in 2023!
It was wonderful to see both current members and alumni coming together on this historic occasion in what is a important location for WHTM history.
The Whitehorse Toastmasters Club was established in 1973, becoming the fifth club in Melbourne and Victoria at the time.
The Whitehorse Toastmasters Club traces its origins back to 1972, initiated by members of the Melbourne Toastmasters Club. Initially meeting in locations believed to be near Box Hill, the club adopted the name "Whitehorse." By May 1973, meetings were held at Karinya Restaurant in Blackburn, where the Charter Dinner celebrated its official establishment in August 1973, under the leadership of Foundation President Alan Neale.
Under the presidency of Tony Jessop in 1975, the club relocated to the Willis Room within the council complex for its regular meetings, a venue praised as one of the finest for Toastmasters gatherings in Melbourne.
Whitehorse Toastmasters has also played a pivotal role in the establishment of Carrington Central and Glen Iris Toastmasters, expanding its influence and commitment to fostering effective communication and leadership skills within the community.
The Whitehorse Toastmasters Club, much like Toastmasters worldwide, faced challenges during the tumultuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these difficulties, our club persevered and adapted. Previously located in Forest Hill, we have now relocated to the newly refurbished Blackburn Square, ensuring our commitment to providing a conducive environment for enhancing communication and leadership skills remains steadfast.
